So, after we got over our amusement at the comical expression on the little doe's face as she drank from the water tap (
see previous post), we headed for the site named by park staff as the "Honeymoon Suite" (
it's very large, and very private). The first thing we noticed was that the site was actually
below the road, not level with it. The second thing we noticed was that there was barely enough room to park the van. Naturally, we did figure it out, but at first, it was a bit of a challenge.
As you can see, Roger was not at all happy at finally having arrived at our tent site. He was so unhappy, in fact, that he yelled - quite loudly - something about being on vacation as he threw his arms up in the air and wooted.

Regardless of the conditions, we always put a tarp over the tent. Not only does the tarp help provide us with some shade when the sun is blistering hot, but if it does rain, it helps ensure that the tent will remain dry.
But, on this, our First Night, the weather was wonderful: sunny, warm, with only a gentle whisper of a breeze. Above us, the wind was a bit brisker, but one of the advantages of getting a site below road level is that it does take longer for the wind to reach you - if it ever does reach you, that is.
For us, no camping trip is a true camp-out without our traditional First-Night Fire in the fire pit. We were both exhausted and sweaty and hot, but there was no way we were going to forsake the traditional First-Night Fire. It was a good thing we didn't forsake it, too, because the mosquitoes were out in killing forces!
First-Night Fire
We didn't cook our food on the campfire on our first night. We were both much too tired for that. Instead, we visited the Husky Restaurant down in the village, and let the fantastic cook whip us up a delectable, very filling, very affordable supper. "Mouse", our waitress, took very good care of us, too.

We loved our visit there - the restaurant staff are always friendly, the food is always awesome, the prices are reasonable, the portions are absolutely fantastic... All in all, the Husky Restaurant in Radium Village definitely gets
five cones from us!

That's it for now, Campers. We'll be sharing more with you - including some really interesting, beautiful, and edible plants - so stay tuned! See you soon!
