Our first week was spent at beautiful Redstreak Campground, in Radium, BC.  The campground is built on the flank of Redstreak Mountain, and it overlooks the world's largest wetland, located in the Columbia Valley.  Both the Bugaboo and the Purcell Ranges are clearly visible from the viewpoint near the top of the hill, just outside the campground gate, as well as almost the entire valley to the north. It's a stunning vista no photographer would want to miss - and the wildlife viewing makes the visit all the more enjoyable.  Bighorn sheep, muledeer, whitetail deer, and other wildlife live in and around the campground.

We were very surprised at how expensive it is for an unserviced site, but when we realized how many "perks" there are, we agreed that we got a pretty sweet deal.  For example, showers are free, the flush and pit toilets are so clean they practically squeak, the opportunities for wildlife viewing are unlimited, there are all kinds of activities available, and so much more.  We just had to give a full five pine cones to the place; to give anything less would just be wrong.

Now, here's an example of what we mean.  As we turned onto the road that took us to our loop, we were greeted by this beautiful little whitetail doe, who was too busy enjoying a nice cool drink of water to care about us sitting only feet away from her and watching her:

How could you not feel welcomed when you see something so beautiful?  As far as we're concerned, this kind of opportunity more than justified the camping fees and campfire permits, and we will continue visiting Redstreak until there's no more room for tenters.

This is just the beginning of our week-long break from the concrete jungle. - and a tiny little taste of the adventures we had. So stay tuned, because we have lots more to share with you!
